Book Review: Miss Mayhem by Rachel Hawkins

Hey my lovelies, as we are almost at the new year, and after a year of having this blog, I thought I would create an ode to the one of the first reviews I posted, number third to be exact. So here is my review of Miss Mayhem by Rachel Hawkins.

Title: Miss Mayhem
Author: Rachel Hawkins
Publisher: Putnam Juvenile
Pub. Date: April 7th 2015
Date Read: Sunday 13th December 2015
Pages: 273
Rating: 3.5/5
Goodreads Summary: Life is almost back to normal for Harper Price. The Ephors have been silent after their deadly attack at Cotillion months ago, and her best friend, Bee, has returned after a mysterious disappearance. Now Harper can focus on the important things in life: school, canoodling with David (her nemesis-turned-ward-slash-boyfie), and even competing in the Miss Pine Grove pageant.

Unfortunately, supernatural chores are never done. The Ephors have decided they’d rather train David than kill him. The catch: Harper has to come along for the ride, but she can’t stay David’s Paladin unless she undergoes an ancient trial that will either kill her . . . or make her more powerful than ever

There isn't really that much to say about Miss Mayhem, as to me there wasn't much character development, the plot didn't really exist and Harper thought she could take on the world and couldn't.

To be honest the only reason this book is rated 3.5 stars is because of the writing and the fact that I sped through the novel so quickly, reading it in only and hour and a half.
The only positive is that Bee did something stupid, that she shouldn't have done and you could tell it wasn't intentional to hurt the other characters, but it was still incredibly stupid of her and you could tell that she felt bad for it afterwards. Personally, I would have been a bit more miffed about what she did and I definitely would be angry or bitter if everyone went against what I wanted, which then failed. And with them paladin powers I would be kicking a**.

So to be completely honest, i'm not sure how I feel about Miss Mayhem, as nothing really happened in it. Instead it coasted a long, with the most action in the novel is a hallucination. And the whole book seemed like more of a novella to fill the gap between the first and the finale, than a book in itself.

In conclusion, Miss Mayhem was an alright novel, my personal rating would 3.5 stars and it is definitely not as good as Rebel Belle was, but I will still be picking up the final novel, Lady Renegades later this year.
