Title: The Shattered Seam
Author: Kathleen Groger

Pub. Date: September 13th 2016
Date Read:   September 2016
Pages: 206
Goodreads Summary: Spending spring break on an isolated island rumored to be haunted is not sixteen-year-old Sam’s idea of fun. Spending spring break with her uncle and his ghost-hunting film crew on an isolated island is even worse. Way worse. Her family’s secrets—and a genetic ability she can no longer deny—surface, along with the ghost of a rich serial killer who left behind a trail of trapped souls. And he’s not through yet. With only one chance for escape, Sam must embrace her family’s curse and close the Seam between the living and the dead. Or be lost, forever.

Overview

The Shattered Seam follows Sam, who is forced to spend her summer with her uncle, due to her Nans death and her parents travelling for their anniversary, filming his paranormal ghost hunting show. Except this ones not just a set up, they soon realise everything is not what it seems as the island soon becomes insanely creepy and Sam learns further about herself and family. Due to spoilery reasons I can't really go into anymore detail than this.
I personally love a good paranormal book, especially the ones that keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to know whats instore for Sam and the crew.

Sam is not just your typical protagonist, as she honestly deals with her grief and discovery of these abilities in an honest way. Which a only a few authors can get across. Despite her obviously going through grief, she remains quite a strong character, which I always like in a story like this.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I really enjoyed the paranormalness of this book, as I can't seem to think of the last time I read one similar to this and I shall definitely be reading the next book in the series. Due to the book only being just over 200 pages, it is a very quick read, which I read in just one sitting.

Recommend...

I would recommend this to anybody who loves a good (ya) paranormal read and you could even read it to prepare yourself for halloween!
